Not everyone likes it. But we sure do in this family! Growing up in Germany, we had sauerkraut fairly regularly, and once we got married, I was happy to discover that Loren was quite fond of it. And since ALDI carries it year round, we've been having it about once a week lately.
I prepare it either with pork chops and mashed potatoes or hotdogs and pan-fried gnocchi, and here is how I made it this week:

I prepare it either with pork chops and mashed potatoes or hotdogs and pan-fried gnocchi, and here is how I made it this week:
Sauerkraut and Wurst:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced (optional)
- 1 package hotdogs, sliced
- ¼ apple, diced
- 1 jar Sauerkraut, drained
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Pan-Fried Gnocchi:
- 1 package Gnocchi
- 1 tbsp butter
- dash of olive oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese
Bring four quarts of salted water to a vigorous boil in a medium pot over high heat. Drop the gnocchi into the boiling water a few at a time, stirring gently and continuously with a wooden spoon. Cook the gnocchi, stirring gently, until tender, about 1 minute after they rise to the surface. Remove from heat and drain. Meanwhile, melt the butter with a dash of olive oil in a large frying pan. Dump the gnocchi into the pan, and spread them around with the back of a spoon to create an even layer over the pan. Let the gnocchi fry for a couple of minutes, or until they turn golden brown. Turn them gently with a spatula, and cook on the other side until brown and crispy. Toss in the Parmesan cheese.
And enjoy! :)
