I’m not a huge fan of writing for the sake of writing. Oh, I admire those who can do it, and I wish that I had those talents of pushing through writing blocks and crafting beautiful passages to read. It’s just that, while I would see myself as a creative individual, I usually need something on which to anchor my creativity.
Enter grad school. “Hi, how ya doin, Grad School? Go ahead and sit down right over there for me for just a second. I’m not quite ready for you to do your thing yet. Can you do that? Thanks.” Graduate school, you have the unique ability of embodying both the anchor and the waves of my thinly spread metaphor. While you most definitely give me material to think about and to exercise creativity with, by nature you happen to do this violently and in excess. Not to mention the fact that you forgot that some activities require time to complete, and also normal people need sleep.
I should mention that my grad degree is in Speech-Language Pathology at Indiana University Bloomington. The result of my intense grad school experience is that my mind is usually too full to know what to do with any of the information contained within. While I’m not a fan of writing for the sake of writing, I am a huge fan of writing to get things off my mind. I use writing to distance myself from half-baked ideas and concepts. To de-clutter my full brain and actually do something with the contents instead of keeping it crammed to the brim, with no room for action.
That’s where this blog comes in. Enter blog. “Thanks for showing up, man. I’m gonna give you some things here in just a sec. Can you just stand there and hold them up for me? Thanks. You’re the best. What? You need a bathroom break already? Ok fine, just be back in 3. What, 6? No, I’ll give you 4.5 minutes and that’s it.” Pardon that interruption. This blog is a designated depository for my thoughts, ideas and creative endeavors encompassing graduate school and life in general. While I will definitely be incredibly busy with school, this will hopefully prove to be an useful outlet amidst the busyness.
So, please enjoy! I look forward to the journey.
