How was your weekend?
Last week I did a horrible job in the blogging department. For all you guys know, we didn't even have a weekend! But don't just assume that. Because we did have one. And here are a few pics from last weekend and this weekend to prove it! Last weekend:This weekend:So there you have it. Not to thrilling, but sometimes the slow non-exciting weekends are just as good as the busier ones.
How was your weekend?

Friday night, our church had a Good Friday Service - the first I've been to in several years! Following the service, we walked out to this amazing sunset and just stood there for a little bit enjoying God's creative masterpiece. Loren and I made brunch together Saturday morning, and it was all so perfect! He whipped up & flipped the pancakes while I put together some Panhandle skillet dishes. Sunday morning we celebrated Christ's resurrection and gift of salvation at church, then came home to a traditional ham dinner. Sunday afternoon my sister Crystal and her family came over from Ohio to stay at Dawn’s for a couple days. Loren and I went over for dinner Sunday & Monday night and it was such a blast having everyone together! I’ve missed my sisters so much. The four toddlers/babies kept us all entertained quite well. So much commotion going on! Can't wait till our parents + all the siblings + spouses + children are all together again! I hope you all had a blessed Easter weekend with family remembering/celebrating all that Christ did for us!
This Friday was Loren's birthday! And we were sure to celebrate quite properly. This year I decided to go a little different route with his gift and went with small gifts every hour on the minute he was born. So, since he was born at 11:34 pm, I started the gifts at 11:34 am, and he got a little something every hour until 11:34 pm. The gifts ranged from cards to coupons to candy to dinner to a movie, etc. It was so much fun to come up with everything and I think he liked it a little. ;) Saturday afternoon, Loren's parents, sisters, nieces and nephew came for a celebration dinner. It was the first time we've had that many people over to our little apartment, and it was a blast! These pictures below don't even touch on all the activity we had going on. Once again, I wish I had gotten more/better pictures of this event and everyone that was there. Loren was delighted to be surrounded by his loving family. :) I'm so glad you were born 23 years ago, Loren! Let's celebrate 100 more together! Also, my little (big) brother got married this weekend over in Germany! So happy for him and his sweet new wife. Just wish we could have been there. Congratulations you guys and welcome to the family, Marianne!
Loren's spring break was well spent with a trip down to see family and friends in South Carolina. I took Thursday and Friday off work, and we headed down Thursday morning hoping to make it in time for dinner. Needless to say, we got down a bit later than planned after some unexpected car iusses, but we made it safely, and are grateful for that. We spent most of our time trying out new food places, drinking coffee, and catching up with family and friends. It was so good to see everyone!!! Here is our weekend in pictures and captions: There are more pictures with other people I wish I had gotten, but we were so glad to see everyone that we did.
Thanks for a great visit, Greenville! Until next time. I haven't been very active on here this past week. Which you may have noticed, but most likely not. I blame this absence on the snow that I am seemingly buried under, even if the last snow storm didn't come till Saturday night. And I'm not really buried under it. Anyway, Thursday night after work I headed over to my sister's house for a few hours. Sister and nephew time was exactly what I needed! Such a rejuvenating time. Sisters are the best and I wish we could all live very close together. Friday night, we had a little date night and finally saw the next Hunger Games movie. I've been waiting for forever for it to come to our cheap theater. Saturday, I spent some major bonding time with my kitchen. I've made a lot of banana bread since the age of 12 (somehow this became my specialty around then), but this weekend I discovered the most incredible recipe. Moist, not too banany flavored, just sweet enough...do yourself a favor and check out the recipe here. Then go make some. And never look further for a banana bread recipe. I actually made banana muffins this time, as they are easier to pack for breakfast/lunches. Sunday morning we woke up to our already white world covered in several inches of new snow, with giant flakes still steadily falling. Church was canceled, so we spent some extra time under the warm covers before we got up and listened to a sermon from our church that we missed a couple of weeks ago. And of course we had waffles for breakfast. :) Eventually some time in the afternoon, we ventured outside to give our white world a closer look. Oh, and to drop off the rent check. We're big adventurers over here, let me tell you! For lunch, and for the first time ever, I made tomato soup. I'm not a huge fan of tomato soup, but this was pretty good and Loren liked it, so that's all that matters. :)
What did you so this weekend? Did you get snow? And who's ready for spring? 1. This nephew of mine has a little crush on me and it's the CUTEST thing.
2. Ever heard of hoopla? It's basically an amazing online library (linked to your local library) with lots of books, movies and music to borrow. All you need to sign up is your library card! 3. Soups. All. Freezing. Winter. Long. 4. I've had my eye on this Fossil bag for a while. Maybe someday I will have a grown-up purse that's not just black. 5. Fuzzy socks have been some of my best friends this week in the sub zero and single digit weather. Happy Friday and Happy Weekending! Stay warm wherever you are! I know I already talked about Valentine's Day on Friday, but that was before we celebrated. This year was the best yet! Just a simple dress up romantic dinner date with lots of candles at home. I'm not a huge fan of hearts and pink and all that, but right before we ate, I decided to cut out some hearts just for this occasion. They were the perfect touch. We ended up watching a movie after dinner, and true to character, I promptly fell asleep 5 minutes into it and didn't wake up until it was over. Saturday morning Loren made me a special breakfast in bed. Some of the best pancakes I've ever eaten! After a long wait for an oil change, we headed to Cincy to see family for the weekend. The weather was so weird and windy! Sometimes snowy, sometimes sunny, yet still a beautiful drive on the country roads. Once we got the in-laws, we had a delicious dinner and played with the nieces and nephew before they went home. Sunday afternoon after church, we went bowling. It had been forever since any of us had played. Our scores weren't the greatest. Well, mine wasn't the greatest. Everyone else did just fine. But we had a blast and hope to play together again sometime soon!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! {Warning: possible slightly mushy post} Why yes I am jumping on the bandwagon and talking about Valentine's Day today. Valentine's Days past, to be exact. This is only our third one together, but our first two went down quite well. 2013: fell during our long distance relationship stunt. It wasn't the most fun being apart, but Loren had a friend special deliver this awesome nerf gun to my dorm room. "To protect you while I'm not there." And TWO bags of Butterfingers!!??? Best. Gifts. Ever. 2014: we dined at a little southern restaurant that was SO good, walked around downtown Greenville and stopped for some hot tea at a little tea shop and just talked about our upcoming life together as man and wife. This year we are celebrating early tonight and keeping it pretty low key with a fancy dinner date at home and maybe a movie. Because when you're with the love of your life, every day is Valentine's Day!
1. Today is my beautiful Mama's birthday. I love you and wish I could celebrate with you!
2. This DIY project from I Spy DIY. I need to do something with all my jewelry! 3. New ways to cook chicken. I love me some good chicken! 4. New coffee shops with good coffee (Coffeehouse Five). 5. This Valentine's Day card from This Little Pigg. Happy Friday! I mentioned the other day that I was interviewing Loren so you all could get to know him better! So, without further ado, meet my man for life, Loren! (thanks to Bailley for this idea) H: First off, describe yourself in three words L: Analytical, curious, friendly. H: You're going to Indiana University grad school for speech pathology. Why speech pathology? L: Because I really like people, and speech pathology is one of the best professions for combining the ability to add value to somebody's quality of life with creativity and a little bit of nerdiness. The more I learn in the field, the more I realize why I'm doing it. H: What is one thing you are currently learning about in grad school? L: Right now we're learning about stuttering: the effects on the person who stutters and more of the counseling side of things rather than treatment. I like that better because it’s more people-based. H: What is your favorite aspect of grad school? L: Probably just the hands-on experience we get, even though that’s also the most stressful. IU is good about hands-on. I also like giving presentations. But not preparing them. H: You have an hour-long drive to and from IU. What do you in that time? L: I usually listen to podcasts. It depends on each day what podcast keeps me awake. Sometimes the story telling ones like the MOTH are really good but then if I'm more curious about learning things that day, THIS AMERICAN LIFE and FREAKONOMICS are good. And I really like REPLY ALL and STARTUP. I’m not sure why. I think it’s because they delve into topics pretty deeply. Basically any podcast that looks at something in-depth then looks at it further. Then looks at it even further. H: What is the hardest thing in school you have learned yet? L: The anatomy of the brain. For some reason that detailed stuff doesn't stick with me. I'm much more able to remember things that deal with interactions with people. H: What is something you've learned about speech that you want to implement with our kids someday? L: Not even related to speech, but actually behavior, one thing I've learned is that most behavior is generated from the desire to communicate something, but the inability to. Taking that into consideration when raising kids. Not spoiling them, but good to keep in mind when disciplining and communicating with a child. H: How do you handle stress during school? L: Haha well I used to freak out a lot more, but right now I'm learning to step back and look at the things that are causing me stress and analyze and learn what is giving me stress. Saying “Am I afraid about such-and-such?” and if so, what, and usually that it is a lot more inconsequential. So basically when I look at the cause of stress/fear, it’s a way smaller deal than if I keep it in the back of my mind. That empowers me to look and see how I can deal with the stress. H: What is your current favorite hobby? L: Drawing and sketching, mainly people. I think I've gotten out of practice, so right now a lot of it centers around basic practice and skill so it will flow more fluidly when I’m drawing. H: Do you read my blog? L: Haha yes! H: Best post so far? L: I don’t know. H: I haven’t written that one yet! L: Maybe the “No TV” one because it’s more outward focused. It applies to people. H: What is your favorite meal that I've made? L: Haha probably your chicken alfredo. I was thinking about this on the bus the other day, “If I could eat anything right now, what would I eat,” and that was it! H: What do you value most in our marriage? L: That we can burp together. haha But seriously, just that we're completely...well, we can completely unwind when we're with each other. Either be completely goofy or pretend to be grown up and interview each other. But I feel I can be completely me when I'm with you. And that’s big for me. H: What is your idea of a perfect date night? L: Something simple, but one where we go out somewhere, wherever, and can just talk instead of whatever. Not extremely specific, more that it includes certain things. Like us being able to sit and talk, goofing off a little bit, and maybe twirling around in the living room. And then maybe finishing the evening by watching something. H: Favorite date/dates so far? L: The first time we did the stay-at-home fancy dinner date. That one where we, I think before we were married, went to Cheddar’s and then got frozen yogurt and people watched. H: What is something you want my readers to know about me? L: That there are two sides to you. The more quiet, reserved, public side and then the completely goofy crazy side when you laugh till tears stream from your eyes. Also that you need a massage constantly. And now you know all there is to know about him!
